Fire Prevention
The Fire Prevention Office administers the regulations of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code. The Uniform Fire Code was enacted to safeguard "to a reasonable degree" life and property from the storage and use of hazardous substances as well as in the occupancy of buildings.
Some of the responsibilities of the Fire Protection Officer are:
- Review and approval of construction plans
- Inspection of new buildings during construction
- Testing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when buildings are sold, or rented
- Inspection and testing of fire safety systems in commercial and public buildings on an annual basis
- Coordinate open burn permits with other applicable agencies
