What Does the Construction Office Do?
The Construction Office enforces the regulations of the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) of the State of New Jersey. All construction is regulated by the UCC and its referenced codes and standards. Construction permits are reviewed and construction permits are issued by the Construction Department. The UCC has five sub codes: Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire and Elevator. Each of the sub codes has an official designated to enforce the regulations of the applicable sub code and inspectors to monitor compliance, all under the supervision of the Construction Official.
The sub code officials review and approve plans submitted, perform inspections as necessary, and issue stop work orders where appropriate. The Construction Official is the administrator of the Construction Department and releases all permits after review by the appropriate sub code official, ensures that all inspections are scheduled and performed and reports are completed and properly filed, approves all certificates of occupancy and issues violations notices when necessary in order to obtain UCC compliance.
Common Projects Which Require Permits
Including, but not limited to additions, alarm systems, decks, electrical work, finished basements, furnaces, hot water heaters, pools, roofing, sheds, siding, tank installation/removal, and wood stoves.
Prior Approvals from other Jurisdictions
Wells and septic systems require a Construction Referral approval from the Hunterdon County Health Department (908) 788-1351.
Any new single-family dwelling, addition structure disturbing more than one acre requires approval from the Hunterdon County Soil District (908) 788-9466.
New driveways require approval from the West Amwell Township Public Works Department (609) 397-3743.
Other prior approvals may be required.

Permits and payments can be dropped off after regular business hours by placing them in the black mailbox located adjacent to the main entrance of the Municipal Building.
