Things to do to be prepared for a Hurricane

Have a family plan.

Know where you would meet in case you are separated.

Have the phone number of a friend or family member that is not in the affected area.  Call them to report your whereabouts.

Have a “go kit”

Some Go Kit items include a weeks worth of medications. Flashlights with spare batteries

            A battery powered radio.

Secure your house and property

EXPECT THE POWER TO GO OFF.

Bring hanging plants inside. During a hurricane they can become projectiles.  Secure trash cans, and lawn chairs.  Do you have a sump pump?  Does it have a battery back up?

Make plans for your pets

If you have to evacuate, have a plan for your pet.  Not all shelters accept or have provisions to handle pets.

Do not touch downed wires.

They could be power wires, and you could be killed.

9-1-1 is for true emergencies only.   Your power being out is not an emergency.  Our local power supplier is Jersey Central Power and Light.  Their number for power outages is 1-888-544-4877 or (1-888-LIGHTSS)
