Important changes to

West Amwell’s weekly trash service

To all West Amwell residents:

During the current state and national economic crisis, the Township Committee has looked at all areas of the municipal budget and has cut spending wherever possible.  One important taxpayer service that the Township wants to maintain is the weekly trash drop-off at the Municipal Building.

But to accomplish this, the Township must charge a fee of $75.00 to cover the second half of 2009.  This modest fee will enable the local garbage drop-off program to continue at half the cost or less than what West Amwell residents would have to pay to a private hauler.

Here is what Township residents need to do before June 30

All Township residents using the Saturday trash drop-off

must obtain a new trash card.

The new trash card costs $75.00 and will be good through the end of 2009.

Bring proof of residence (driver’s license, tax bill, etc.) to the municipal building.  Residents can apply in person at the municipal building or, if unable to do so during normal business hours, mail proof of residence and provide a stamped self-addressed envelope to the Municipal Clerk for the processing of the card.

Submit proof of residency to the Clerk at 150 Rocktown Lambertville Rd, Lambertville, NJ 08530, with your $75 payment as soon as possible.  The new program takes effect July 11th, but residents must obtain their new trash cards no later than June 30th.

To use the Saturday trash drop-off starting July 11, Township residents

must display the new trash card.

Compare the cost

Private service through Raritan Valley Disposal would cost each household between $300 and $400 per year depending on container size.  Even with the new fee, using West Amwell’s garbage drop-off on Saturdays still saves money.

If all the residents currently using the trash service are not supportive of this, the municipal “dump” may be eliminated next year. If this happens, we will also lose our $$$ for our new single stream recycling which will cost our taxpayers even more (because the Raritan Valley charges include a mandatory fee for recycling and less recyclables would then go into our single stream recycling. Single stream recycling has been saving the Township money).
