2003 Update - Historic Preservation Committee

The Historic Preservation Committee will be working on two exciting projects this year.  The first project is a continuation and hopefully completion of the windshield survey that was first started over ten years ago.  Some of the photographs and information have been misplaced and the committee will be re-shooting pictures of township homes, structures, points of interest and scenic vistas.  The goal is to have this current information put on disk for the education and enjoyment of future generations.  This is one way to preserve what the township looks like now.

The second project the committee is working on is to research on the Village of Gone, which was a possible Belgium block mining community in the late 1800s and early 1900s.  The village was located in the Sourland Mountain area (also known as High Valley) off Mt Airy Harbourton Road between Rock Road West and Rocktown Road.

Update as of September 15, 2003:

The Historic Committee is currently working on a "Past & Present" photo display board for the Country Fair. We hope to display photos of the Township depicting how it looked in the past and then photos of how it currently looks. For example, we will show a photo of Williamson Dairy Farm and then a photo of Orleans Development. Although the township has not drastically changed over the years, we want to show the changes that have occurred and that it is important to support our open space projects and stay involved so that we have a voice in decisions that could ultimately effect our township's rural beauty forever.
